Maddie Boes
Raleigh, North Carolina
Maddie Boes is a sophomore at Cary Academy in Raleigh, North Carolina, and founder of WaveMakers, a coastal conservation club focused on hands-on projects at Bald Head Island and beyond. After spending a decade of summers swimming, surfing, and exploring BHI’s coastal landscapes – and a summer studying marine biology in coastal Spain – she became dedicated to protecting the fragile coastal ecosystems she loves. She’s been a longtime volunteer with the BHI Conservancy’s kids’ camps, helping turn campers into passionate environmentalists. Beyond environmental leadership, she serves as Communications Director for Cary Academy’s Voters of Tomorrow Club and is a member of her school’s Student Leadership Cohort. A storyteller at heart, she believes in creating change through education and awareness, using words, images, and creativity to make people actually care. As a POP Global Ambassador, she’s channeling that energy into the fight against plastic pollution. When she’s not advocating for the planet, you’ll find her practicing yoga, painting, reading, or relaxing at the beach.
