Top-Ranked Global Consulting Firm & Local Nonprofit Tackle Trash at Carolina Beach State Park WILMINGTON, NC-June 8, 2023-On Friday June 9th, Carolina Beach State Park will be getting some TLC from the world’s largest consulting firm-Deloitte. Employee volunteers from Deloitte US are working with the local nonprofit, Plastic Ocean Project for a daylong private cleanup. Deloitte ranks number one among the Big Four global providers of audit, tax, risk and financial advisory and consulting. The firm was founded in 1845 in London and expanded to the US in 1890. The effort is part of Deloitte’s “Global Impact Day” where member firms around the world host a variety of activities in celebration of the corporate giant’s commitment to communities. Hogan Hagy, who is a Senior Manager with the firm, initiated the cleanup and recruited over 30 volunteers. In reflecting on this initiative Hagy remarked, “The values and visions of Plastic Ocean Project perfectly align with our shared mission as a society and organization. We’re all about creating a world with cleaner oceans and spreading awareness about sustainable practices that benefit everyone. We truly believe in our power to make a difference, whether it’s through small steps or big leaps. With POP by our side, we’re excited to kick start a long-term relationship that will benefit our community.” Carolina Beach State Park covers over 760 acres and is positioned along the Cape Fear River and Snow’s Cut, which is part of the Intracoastal Waterway. Removing harmful debris prevents it from entering the water and making its way into the ocean and that, says POP’s director Bonnie Monteleone, “Is the name of the game!” For every 25 pounds of trash that the Deloitte volunteers collect, one tree will also be earned as part of the nonprofit’s Trees4Trash program. Last year POP volunteers collected 6 tons of trash and earned over 470 trees. ###
